Football Club Willamette (originally Willamette Valley Association Football Club) was created in 1992 by current Executive and Technical Director Tom Rowney to provide committed and talented soccer players of the central Willamette Valley area of Oregon (Eugene, Springfield, Corvallis, Albany and Salem) with a program dedicated to intensive and effective soccer training.   Originally, the program focused on summer and spring academy style training without operating competitive teams.
With growing interest in playing competitive matches, the program format was changed in 1995 with the creation of our first team – the Pride – a U13 girls team.   Although a community team primarily from the Sheldon area of Eugene (only 21 girls originally tried
out for the team),  the Pride developed into one of the top teams in the West Region.   They were Oregon State Champions for their age group for five years in a row (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001).   They also reached 2 Far West Regional quarter-final berths and one semi-final.   While they have won many tournaments they are the only Oregon team (boys or girls) to win a prestigious Surf Cup.  Since 1995 the club has grown to currently include 10 teams and over 200 premier and junior academy members!  Virtually every player on the team who desired to play in college were recruited and played at the college level.  The 84 Excel team had an interesting career with our club which culminated in their reaching the Final of the Surf Cup in 2001.  The 85 Posh team made the State Cup Championship game 5 times winning the grand prize on two occasions.  They also reached the Quarter-Finals of the Far West Regional tournament. While it is not the primary focus of our program, the success of our teams (given the short history of our program) is unparalleled in the Central Willamette Valley region.   Our players are known for their ability to perform with technical and tactical excellence,  as well as with honesty,  integrity,  and a keen sense of athletic expression.  For a look at a comprehensive list of our teams achievements please visit our achievements page.
