In a busy weekend of tournament soccer FC Willamette
placed four teams (of six entered) in the Championship games at the
Corvallis Invitational in Corvallis, Oregon. The 82 Pride team won
the U19 Division, beating Blackhills FC from Olympia, WA 4-0 to
win their 3rd CIT tournament. In one of the most exciting games of
the tournament the Pride were 1-3 down against the Bend All-Stars but
scored 3 goals in the last 10 minutes of the game to win
4-3.
The 83 Diamonds took the U-17 Championship with a 4-2
result, again over a Blackhills FC team. In pool play the
Diamonds beat the Highline Eagles (WA) 2-1 and McKenzie United 3-1, and
tied the Blackhills FC team 2-2.
Despite playing superb soccer all weekend, the
85 Posh team couldn't find the net in the U15 Division Championship game
losing 0-1 against LO Fushion. Prior to the final the Posh didn't
have any trouble scoring goals, beating the West Linn Revolution
2-1, the Shooting Stars (WA) 7-0, Emerald City (WA) 3-0, and Rogue
Valley 4-0.
The 87 Passion team lost a close-fought game 2-3 to FC
Royals in the U13 Division Championship game. This was the second
time this summer that the teams had met in a tournament final. In
the May 2000 Rainier Challenge held in Tacoma, WA, the Royals
edged the Passion 0-1 in overtime. One of the highlights for the
Passion though was a resounding 3-0 win over the current Oregon State
Champions, CUSC Reign, in pool play. Other results
included wins over Rougue Valley Intensity 2-0, FC Marauders 3-0,
and Rogue Valley Crossfire 3-1.
