FC Willamette's Philosophy

Learning to play skillful soccer is no different to developing an expertise in other activities -- it takes time, patience, quality instruction, and the hard work that comes from a desire and commitment to reach the highest standards of performance.

The philosophy which guides our program focuses on the patient long-term development of each individual player in the group, rather than the short term, win-loss record of the team as a whole.  We believe that if you take care of the development of each individual on the team, then the team and the winning of soccer matches will take care of itself!

Therefore, at F.C. Willamette the developmental needs of the individual participants take precedence over the needs of the team or the club.  Because we are required to operate within a team and club structure there are occasions when the success of the team and the winning of matches does become important.  However, these occasions are rare and will never be more important than the long-term developmental growth of our participants!  In short,  the club and the team are simply the vehicles through which we foster individual excellence!
